Nearly a dozen people have been arrested for illegally hooking their homes up to the power grid and other alleged offences during raids on Roma camps west of Athens, police said Monday.
Power network employees who accompanied police in Friday’s raids disconnected and removed a total eight kilometers of cables used for illegal grid connections in Megara and Nea Peramos, a police statement said.
Eleven people were arrested for alleged electricity theft, as well as violations of building regulations and the highway code.
