Academic qualifications spark controversy over official’s appointment

[InTime News]

Newly appointed Deputy Agriculture Minister Makarios Lazaridis faces opposition demands for his resignation over his degree from the College of Southeastern Europe.

PASOK questions how he served as a ministerial specialist in 2007, when Law 2190/1994 required a minimum of a university degree, doctorate or postgraduate qualification.

Lazaridis dismissed critics, saying he submitted all required documents. PASOK called him a “party favor” and demanded his dismissal.

SYRIZA also accused him of presenting a non-university certificate as an academic degree.
