Easter getaway triggers heavy traffic

[InTime News]

Traffic has been building up on major routes out of Athens, as thousands of holidaymakers leave the capital for the Greek Easter.

By Thursday afternoon, vehicles were moving at slow speeds on key motorways amid increasing congestion. Along Kifissos Avenue, traffic heading north towards Lamia had come to a near standstill across a long stretch between Renti and Kifissia.

On the Athens-Corinth motorway, heavy westward traffic was reported from Egaleo to Skaramanga, with additional delays at the toll booths of Nea Peramos and Megara.

Congestion was also affecting the capital’s Attiki Odos ring road, particularly in the westbound direction towards Elefsina.

At the same time, heightened passenger traffic was recorded at Piraeus port, where more than 20,000 tickets were issued for Thursday departures. Increased activity was also reported at the Kifissou KTEL bus depot, as intercity services operated at high capacity.
