Elon Musk has proposed Cypriot MEP and YouTuber Fidias Panayiotou for the presidency of the European Union in a post on X, on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Recently, Musk engaged with Fidias in a discussion about the definition of \u201cfar right,\u201d prompting the Cypriot MEP to create a video in response.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The conversation continued when Musk replied \u201cyes\u201d to a user on X who described Fidias as \u201cone of the most transparent politicians in Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n

He later quote-tweeted the comment, adding the statement: \u201cFidias for EU President!\u201d<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time Musk and Fidias have commented on EU leadership. After Ursula von der Leyen\u2019s recent election as president of the European Commission, Fidias posted a video criticizing the election process, advocating for a \u201cmore democratic\u201d approach. Musk responded to the video on X, stating, \u201cFidias has a good point.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although the EU does not have a formal presidency, the president of the European Commission is widely regarded as the most powerful political position within the union. In July, Ursula von der Leyen was re-elected for a second five-year term, which is set to conclude in 2029.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Musk, who frequently interacts with Fidias on X, has known the Cypriot YouTuber-turned-MEP since 2023, when Fidias camped outside the X headquarters in a widely publicized effort to hug Elon Musk. This took place before Fidias launched his campaign for the European Parliament.<\/p>\n

Fidias has also expressed admiration for Musk, stating in the past that the billionaire inspired him to actively use X.<\/p>\n
