Through resourceful and incisive storytelling, the documentaries examine key concepts such as personal experience, trauma, and coexistence.<\/p>\n<p>The tribute was inspired by the recent recovery of \u201cKastoria,\u201d a 1969 film by the late director and screenwriter Takis Kanellopoulos, long thought to be lost.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Thessaloniki in October 1933, Kanellopoulos attended Anatolia College before briefly pursuing journalism. He later moved to Athens to study at the Stavrakos Film and Television School and continued his education in Munich, where he spent two years observing productions at Bavaria Studios.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img class=\"lazy lazy-hidden\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ekathimerini.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/LEUCADA_THE_ISLAND_OF_THE_POETS_1.jpg?1740069920758\" alt=\"doc-fest-dusts-off-some-vintage-gems0\" width=\"960\" height=\"621\"\/><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ekathimerini.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/LEUCADA_THE_ISLAND_OF_THE_POETS_1.jpg?1740069920758\" alt=\"doc-fest-dusts-off-some-vintage-gems1\" width=\"960\" height=\"621\"\/><figcaption>A still from Roviros Manthoulis\u2019 \u2018Leucada, the Island of the Poets.\u2019<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Considered a forerunner to the New Greek Cinema movement, Kanellopoulos directed \u201cKastoria,\u201d a 24-minute film that follows a foreign traveler on horseback searching for a fairy, set against the modern yet timeless everyday life of the lakeside Macedonian city. The film won Best Short Documentary at the 1969 Thessaloniki Film Festival.
