Greece\u2019s major labor unions are set to stage a general strike on Wednesday, protesting the rising cost of living and demanding better wages and collective agreements.<\/p>\n
The strike, organized by the civil servants\u2019 union ADEDY and private-sector union GSEE, which collectively represent over two million workers, will bring public transportation to a standstill. Rallies are planned in central Athens and other major cities across the country.<\/p>\n
The Panhellenic Seamen\u2019s Federation (PNO) and unions representing private-sector educators, construction workers, public hospital employees, and bank workers (OTOE) have also announced their participation.<\/p>\n
The Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA), responsible for metro, tram, city buses, and trolleybuses in the Athens metropolitan area, will observe two work stoppages: from the start of early-morning shifts until 9 a.m., and from 9 p.m. until the end of the day. Services will operate only between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Meanwhile, urban bus lines run by the Attica Public Transport Consortium and intercity KTEL routes are expected to operate normally.<\/p>\n
The Athens taxi drivers\u2019 union (SATA) will not join the stoppage but has called on members to attend a rally outside its headquarters at 9.30 a.m., followed by a march to the Ministry of Economy at Syntagma Square.<\/p>\n
Railway workers will join the 24-hour strike, as announced by the Panhellenic Federation of Railway Workers (POS). The Federation of Hospital Doctors of Greece (OENGE) is also participating, drawing attention to severe doctor shortages in public hospitals and the challenges patients face accessing essential medical tests.<\/p>\n
Journalists staged their strike on Tuesday, while pensioners are planning a separate rally on Friday.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
