Both anniversaries are good opportunities to ponder the collective accomplishments of the longest period of peace, freedom and \u2013 despite the troughs \u2013 economic growth in this country.<\/p>\n<p>That said, these reminders are not sufficient to sustain faith in the political system. Invoking the values of democracy no longer resonates, as the experience of oppression is fading. The memory needs to be kept alive.
