A series of earthquakes that rattled the island of Santorini at the weekend and Monday have prompted evacuations and increased monitoring as authorities assess the situation.<\/p>\n
From Saturday afternoon to Monday evening, 37 earthquakes exceeding magnitude 4 were recorded, along with numerous smaller tremors.<\/p>\n
Seismologists have installed two new monitoring stations \u2013 one on the islet of Anydros, where many quakes have originated, and another on the island of Anafi \u2013 to track the seismic activity closely.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are monitoring the situation closely, but at this stage, there is no reason to panic,\u201d said Efthymios Lekkas, Greece\u2019s leading seismologist.<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cWhile these earthquakes are concerning, they do not yet indicate any imminent volcanic eruption or catastrophic event.\u201d<\/p>\n
In response to the ongoing seismic activity, authorities on Santorini have implemented an evacuation plan, ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors.<\/p>\n
Workers and travelers have been moved to safe zones away from the caldera, which is known for its volcanic activity.<\/p>\n

Lekkas, the prominent seismologist, further explained that the activity in Santorini\u2019s caldera is not yet cause for alarm.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis type of seismic activity has been recorded in the past. However, we must remain prepared for the unpredictable nature of the region\u2019s volcanic behavior,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
The evacuation plan for Santorini includes a full coordination effort, with local officials working to guide people safely to temporary shelters. Lekkas reassured the public, stating that the situation is under control.<\/p>\n
