It noted that, as a member of the Security Council for the 2025-2026 term, Greece, in partnership with the Republic of Cyprus, \u201cmade significant efforts in negotiating the renewal of UNFICYP\u2019s mandate, whose role is widely recognized as crucial for de-escalating tensions and maintaining peace and security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ministry reiterated that resolving the Cyprus issue remains a top priority of Greek foreign policy, stating: \u201cWe look forward to making a constructive contribution to the dialogue for a just, viable, and functional solution to the Cyprus problem, in line with the UN Security Council Resolutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded following a coup aiming to unify the island with Greece.
