The young child was hospitalized in a coma with a brain hematoma and a ruptured abdominal aorta. Doctors immediately intubated him for emergency surgery.<\/p>\n
Doctors at the University General Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI) were shocked by the child’s condition. He had bruises and burns all over his body, indicating previous abuse at home.<\/p>\n
The next 48 hours are critical for the unfortunate child’s recovery.<\/p>\n
Blaming Each Other<\/p>\n
Police, alerted by the doctor who examined the child, arrested both the mother and her partner.<\/p>\n
They both face serious charges of attempted murder, bodily harm to a vulnerable person, and domestic violence.<\/p>\n
In their statements to the police, neither admits to hitting the child, each blaming the other.<\/p>\n
Facing the Prosecutor<\/p>\n
The 26-year-old mother and her 44-year-old partner are being held at the Heraklion police station and are expected to appear before the prosecutor on Monday morning.<\/p>\n
It’s worth noting that the 44-year-old man was accused of domestic violence by his former wife in 2022.<\/p>\n

“Today (January 26, 2025), in Heraklion, officers of the Heraklion Crimes Investigation Department arrested two Greek nationals (a man and a woman) on charges of attempted murder, bodily harm to vulnerable persons, child endangerment, and domestic violence against a minor.<\/p>\n
A case file was also opened for violations of weapons and narcotics laws, as the following items were found and confiscated during a search of their home:<\/p>\n
The minor was transported to the University General Hospital of Heraklion for treatment.<\/p>\n
