Authorities on the southern island of Crete have arrested a suspect after uncovering a weapons cache containing a homemade explosive device, TNT, and a large quantity of ammunition. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, rented the storage space and installed aluminum foil at the entrance to block visual access to the interior. He also placed a sign indicating the space was being used as an office.<\/p>\n
According to a statement, the search was conducted by the Hania and Iraklio police departments, with assistance from Crete\u2019s criminal investigation unit and a specially trained sniffer dog. The investigation led to the seizure of a homemade explosive device composed of two blocks of C-4 explosives, a detonator, and a modified mobile phone, all ready for use. Authorities also discovered 270 grams of TNT with a slow-burning fuse and integrated detonator, six detonators, three hand grenades, two packages of explosive emulsion weighing 4,400 grams, two instant fuses, a pistol and revolver with fully loaded magazines, four magazines, 6,835 rounds of ammunition, two stock pieces, a magazine catch, and a recoil spring for military rifles. Additionally, 33 firecrackers, 2.5 grams of cocaine in nylon packages, 20 grams of processed cannabis (known as \u201cchocolate\u201d), a precision scale, an ATM withdrawal card, a key with a remote control, and two plastic containers used for transporting military materials were seized.<\/p>\n
The suspect has been charged with the manufacturing and possession of explosives, as well as violations related to weapons, drugs, and fireworks. He is currently in custody and will face judicial authorities.<\/p>\n
This arrest follows a similar case on the island just days earlier, when a 36-year-old man was arrested after authorities discovered an arms cache that included a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a G3 A4 assault rifle, a hunting shotgun, several pistols, and significant quantities of drugs.<\/p>\n
It remains unclear whether the two cases are connected. The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
