It forms part of the vision of Sydney Olympic’s new Board to build a stronger network between National Premier Leagues (NPL) football and community clubs across the Football NSW landscape.

Two clubs with shared Greek roots

Mascot Kings FC was founded in 1972 and shares Sydney Olympic’s Greek-Australian heritage. Both clubs have played important roles in the history of migrant sport in Sydney.

Read more: Infantino Challenged Over Fourth Term Bid as FIFA President

Both were founded within Sydney’s Greek migrant community and have since grown into inclusive organisations that welcome players and families from many different cultural backgrounds.

Pathways from juniors to the NPL

The partnership aims to create more development opportunities for junior, youth and senior footballers, including boys and girls who hope to move into NPL competitions and possibly professional football.

Sydney Olympic said the deal reflects an ambition that reaches beyond first-grade football. Its focus is on building sustainable pathways for players while keeping the independence and identity of the community clubs involved.

The agreement also gives Sydney Olympic a chance to reconnect with its traditional supporter base in the Bayside region, where the club built strong community ties during its years at St George Stadium.

“Good clubs stand together”

Mascot Kings FC President James Mavroudis welcomed the partnership as an important milestone for both organisations.

“This is a historic partnership for both clubs. Connecting with an iconic club like Sydney Olympic gives our young boys, girls and senior players greater opportunities to develop and progress,” Mavroudis said.

“We share a genuine commitment to women’s football, and we were impressed by the new Board’s vision. When a proud community club is rebuilding, good clubs stand together.”

Sydney Olympic thanked Mavroudis and the Mascot Kings committee for their support and their commitment to strengthening community football.

Building towards a 70th anniversary

The announcement comes as Sydney Olympic prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2027. The club has positioned the partnership as an early step in a wider rebuilding and development strategy.

The club stressed that its ambitions stretch well beyond the coming season. “We’re not just planning for 2027 — we’re building Sydney Olympic for the next 70 years,” it said.

READ MORE: Oakleigh Cannons Beat Sydney Olympic 4–2 on Australian Championship Debut

READ MORE: Manfred Schaefer: Former Sydney Olympic manager and Socceroo great passes away

READ MORE: Hellenic Club Sydney celebrates 100 years with historic centenary gala

Related coverage

Stella Mazonakis

Stella Mazonakis is a contributor at Greek City Times, covering Greek news, community stories, sport, culture, and current affairs for readers in Greece and the diaspora.

Source link

Sydney Olympic FC has announced a multi-year partnership with Mascot Kings FC, a deal the club describes as a landmark step in linking elite football with grassroots communities across Sydney.
