The play reenacted the founding of the Republic and the 1919–22 War of Independence, including the Greco-Turkish conflict. Pupils representing opposing forces wore devil and monster masks while draped in Greek, British, Italian, and other foreign flags. Turkish-side children wore only Turkish flags with no masks. A Scottish parent of British pupils at the school publicly expressed shock, noting foreign-flag children were later covered by the Turkish flag while her children watched. The images have fueled debate on historical education and national stereotypes in Turkish schools.

Turkish school Republic Day play demon masks

Advertising

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

( window.advanced_ads_ready || jQuery( document ).ready ).call( null, function() {var $greek2slider3255140236 = jQuery( “.greek-2slider-3255140236” );$greek2slider3255140236.on( “unslider.ready”, function() { jQuery( “div.custom-slider ul li” ).css( “display”, “block” ); });$greek2slider3255140236.unslider({ delay:6000, autoplay:true, nav:false, arrows:false, infinite:true });$greek2slider3255140236.on(“mouseover”, function() {$greek2slider3255140236.unslider(“stop”);}).on(“mouseout”, function() {$greek2slider3255140236.unslider(“start”);});});

The post Turkish Primary School Republic Day Play: Children in Demon Masks Wrapped in Greek, British Flags Spark Online Backlash appeared first on Greek City Times.

Source link

Turkish Primary School Republic Day Play: Children in Demon Masks Wrapped in Greek, British Flags Spark Online Backlash Photos from a Turkish elementary school’s 29 October Republic Day performance have gone viral, drawing criticism.
