A text-message drive pushed organ donor registrations in Greece past 4,000 in just nine days, as the country recorded 324 transplants so far in 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n The Hellenic Transplant Organisation (EOM) recorded 4,264 organ donor registrations to the National Organ Donor Registry from 10 to 18 October. Its information website drew 11,392 visits over the same period.<\/p>\n Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis launched the drive with EOM and IDIKA<\/a>, the state company that runs Greece\u2019s e-prescription system. People who use paperless prescriptions received messages about organ and tissue donation, so they could sign up quickly and easily.<\/p>\n The new organ donor registrations come as transplants rise for a sixth year in a row, according to EOM.<\/p>\n Read more: Greece Extends Free Obesity Medication to 43,500 Beneficiaries<\/p>\n Since January, surgeons have carried out 268 solid-organ transplants from 119 deceased donors. In addition, patients received 56 kidney transplants from living donors.<\/p>\n Over the past two weeks, 51 patients received transplants from 12 deceased donors, EOM said. The donors died in 10 hospitals, including Sotiria and KAT, which each had two donors.<\/p>\n Donors also died at the 251 Air Force General Hospital, Korgialenio-Benakio Red Cross Hospital, Onassis and Lamia General Hospital. Attikon, Nikaia General Hospital, Henry Dunant and the Athens Naval Hospital completed the list.<\/p>\n EOM thanked the donors\u2019 families, who chose to give \u201chope and life\u201d at the hardest moment of their lives. It also thanked intensive care and transplant staff in the hospitals.<\/p>\n Laiko Hospital in Athens performed four liver transplants, one combined liver-kidney transplant and five kidney transplants, EOM said.<\/p>\n In Thessaloniki, Hippokrateio Hospital carried out three liver transplants, seven kidney transplants and one combined kidney-pancreas transplant.<\/p>\n Evangelismos Hospital in Athens performed three kidney transplants, while the University Hospital of Patras performed one.<\/p>\n The Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre carried out two lung transplants and one combined heart-lung transplant.
