Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Halkida presented a ten-point list on Wednesday on how priests should handle their online presence, and called for the Church to keep their use of digital platforms responsible.<\/p>\n
The synod has already accepted that clergy may use modern means \u201cto fulfill their high mission of becoming fishers of men,\u201d according to a synod statement. Chrysostomos said that presence should still reflect their pastoral role and the Church.<\/p>\n
\u201cA cleric must understand, with self-restraint, that a public position is not necessary on every issue and every event,\u201d one point said.<\/p>\n
Other principles include avoiding public confrontations, insults and personal attacks, and not spreading unverified information. The list also stresses protection of confidential pastoral relationships and caution in private online messages.<\/p>\n
The proposals call for basic training in how platforms work, how addiction and polarization develop, and the challenges of artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n
Chrysostomos said the aim is not a ban. It is to let clergy use modern media without letting it erode their pastoral identity.<\/p>\n
The synod discussed the proposals. No new binding rule was announced.<\/p>\n
