One of the accused doctors opened his statement by saying he had been subjected to intense public criticism since the case emerged.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am devastated by what happened,\u201d he said, according to SKAI. He said he was grieving Mazonakis\u2019 death while also facing what he described as public attacks against himself and his family.<\/p>\n
The doctor also referred to disciplinary action taken against him and said he was being treated \u201clike a common criminal\u201d.<\/p>\n
The doctor said he was informed of the emergency at around 4:15pm and immediately began resuscitation efforts.<\/p>\n
According to his statement, he checked Mazonakis\u2019 pulse before starting cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including chest compressions and artificial respiration.<\/p>\n
He said one millilitre of adrenaline was administered by the other doctor while he was present.<\/p>\n
The doctor also claimed that when he entered the room, the other accused doctor was not performing CPR and was standing near the medical equipment and Mazonakis\u2019 right arm.<\/p>\n
He said he instructed staff to call the emergency services and estimated that around four to five minutes passed before the call was made.<\/p>\n
The emergency call reportedly requested a cardiac unit.<\/p>\n
The doctor also addressed the defibrillator available at the clinic.<\/p>\n
He said both he and his wife knew how to use a defibrillator but claimed it was not used because Mazonakis was reportedly in asystole.<\/p>\n
He added that he had never personally tested the device and did not know whether the other doctor had checked it.<\/p>\n
The doctor was also asked why he did not accompany Mazonakis in the ambulance to Elpis Hospital.<\/p>\n
He said he was not Mazonakis\u2019 treating physician and believed he had no further medical intervention to provide at the hospital. He said the ambulance crew already had the necessary information and his contact details.<\/p>\n
The accused doctor also addressed the plasma exchange equipment used at the clinic.<\/p>\n
He claimed the machine operated by his wife was used within its approved indications, while describing the other machine as belonging to what he characterised as a less clearly defined regulatory category.<\/p>\n
He said the machine had not been classified by Greece\u2019s National Organisation for Medicines and claimed there was no representative in Greece to submit a relevant application.<\/p>\n
The statements are part of the doctors\u2019 defence and remain subject to the judicial investigation.<\/p>\n
The other accused doctor reportedly submitted an 18 page statement in which she argued that she had acted appropriately when Mazonakis\u2019 condition deteriorated.<\/p>\n
She said she immediately placed an oxygen mask on him, called for medical assistance and asked a nurse to bring adrenaline.<\/p>\n
She said she then began CPR and maintained that she had been trained to respond to medical emergencies.<\/p>\n
According to her account, her husband arrived almost immediately and also began CPR.<\/p>\n
She said the necessary actions were taken within minutes and argued that the same initial emergency procedures would have been carried out even if Mazonakis had been in a hospital.<\/p>\n
The doctor acknowledged that approximately five minutes passed before the emergency services were called, attributing the delay to the panic surrounding the situation.<\/p>\n
Asked how Mazonakis could have suffered a cardiac arrest, the doctor said she could not provide a definitive answer.<\/p>\n
She referred to Prinzmetal\u2019s unstable angina as a possible condition associated with cardiac arrest, while also referring to cocaine use.<\/p>\n
That statement represents the doctor\u2019s account and does not establish the cause of Mazonakis\u2019 death. The forensic investigation remains central to determining the medical circumstances.<\/p>\n
The doctor said she activated the defibrillator and that it showed asystole.<\/p>\n
She claimed the defibrillator used by emergency personnel and the one at Elpis Hospital produced the same result.<\/p>\n
She argued that a person can progress directly to asystole and said this was consistent with cardiac arrest.<\/p>\n
The doctor also disputed an account concerning whether she attempted to accompany Mazonakis to hospital.<\/p>\n
She claimed she initially entered the ambulance but was subsequently told to leave because there was insufficient space.<\/p>\n
Her account differs from statements attributed to emergency personnel and will therefore form part of the evidence examined during the investigation.<\/p>\n
The doctor was also questioned about appointments that were reportedly deleted from iCloud.<\/p>\n
She responded that she did not handle the clinic\u2019s secretarial work.<\/p>\n
