It is a unique cultural venue in one of the most beautiful locations on the island \u2013 Mitata is also known as the \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kythera-family.net\/en\/history\/general-history\/mitata-imagining-the-balcony-of-kythera\">balcony of Kythera<\/a>\u201d \u2013 with views over the verdant village of Viaradika, Republic,<strong> Iason Fotilas<\/strong>, representing the Greek Government, and George Miller\u2019s daughter, <strong>Augusta Miller<\/strong>, who travelled to her ancestral island to represent the Miller family.<\/p>\n<p>The inauguration of the new cultural centre started with a blessing from Metropolitan Seraphim of Kythira and Antikythera, followed by speeches by local successful repurposing of the building, with the refurbished school now a modern Film Club and the former community hall converted into a creative space for cultural and folklore activities, together with a beautiful open-air theatre. In this way, according to the mayor, these buildings have been handed over to the new generation so that it, too, may put its own stamp on the place, as the generations before it did.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor also turned to Augusta Miller and in English, expressed his gratitude for her acceptance of the island\u2019s invitation to attend the ceremony, explaining:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOur island and its residents have decided to honour your father for his total contribution to cinema and arts, by dedicating this movie club and cultural centre, here in his home village, to him. All of us who grew up with your father\u2019s movies feel a special joy tonight. After all, the village of Mitata has always been extremely proud as the hometown of Dr. George Miller. So I would like you to convey to your father our gratitude for everything he has given us so far, as well as our anticipation to welcome him again to the island where his father was born.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Mayor Charchalakis also thanked Mr Fotilas for attending, noting his ministerial responsibility for contemporary culture. We humans are hardwired for story.\u00a0 Stories are part of every culture across every time and every place. It\u2019s how we make meaning, and it\u2019s culturally intrinsic to Kythera.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the acclaimed director, it seemed that every Kytherian he met was a storyteller and descended from storytelling:<\/p>\n<p><em>So many stories, stories which bridge time. Funny stories, dark, unforgettable, uplifting stories \u2026 if it wasn\u2019t for the fact that I was Greek, I would not have become a storyteller in the way that I am.
