The two doctors currently being held in pretrial detention have until Friday, September 25, to challenge the detention orders. According to the latest reports, the 58 year old doctor is currently the one considering taking the next legal step.<\/p>\n
His legal team is reportedly examining a request for his detention to be replaced with house arrest and electronic monitoring.<\/p>\n
The development comes as investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding Mazonakis\u2019 death at the medical practice on Karneadou Street in Kolonaki on September 9.<\/p>\n
A 28 year old secretary at the clinic appeared before the investigating magistrate on Tuesday and gave a further statement about the events of the day Mazonakis died.<\/p>\n
The secretary had already given statements during the preliminary investigation and was recalled as authorities examine discrepancies in the accounts given by employees at the clinic.<\/p>\n
According to reports of her latest testimony, she said Mazonakis was at the clinic at around 3:30pm.<\/p>\n
At around the same time, another patient of the 58 year old doctor allegedly arrived at the practice. The patient is reported to have remained with the doctor until approximately 4:10pm.<\/p>\n
A prescription for medical examinations was reportedly issued at 4:06pm. The document has also been presented by the 58 year old doctor as part of his defence.<\/p>\n
The testimony is being examined as investigators attempt to reconstruct the precise sequence of events inside the clinic during the critical period before Mazonakis suffered cardiac arrest.<\/p>\n
The secretary also reportedly told investigators that she was the person who contacted Greece\u2019s emergency medical service, making calls both from her mobile phone and from the clinic\u2019s landline.<\/p>\n
Her testimony is now being considered alongside other evidence as investigators work to establish exactly who was present at the clinic and what happened during the final hours of Mazonakis\u2019 life.<\/p>\n
Other employees are also expected to be called to provide further testimony as investigators examine discrepancies between their previous statements.<\/p>\n
The investigation has also widened beyond the two doctors.<\/p>\n
Greek Police spokesperson Constantia Dimoglidou said authorities cannot yet rule out the involvement of another person in the case.<\/p>\n
Speaking to ERTnews Radio, Dimoglidou said investigators were still processing digital evidence and telephone data, which could prove significant in determining what happened.<\/p>\n
She said another person\u2019s involvement could potentially relate to providing assistance, concealing an accused person or providing false information to police.<\/p>\n
She also noted that people who have already testified during the preliminary investigation can be recalled by the investigating magistrate, while additional witnesses who emerge during the investigation can also be questioned.<\/p>\n
The latest developments come after investigators identified discrepancies in statements from employees at the clinic concerning the timing of Mazonakis\u2019 arrival, the plasmapheresis procedure and the events inside the practice.<\/p>\n
Kathimerini reported that employees had provided differing accounts of the critical timeline, prompting further testimony.<\/p>\n
The two doctors, who are a married couple, were remanded in pretrial detention after being charged with homicide with possible malice aforethought in connection with Mazonakis\u2019 death. Both deny wrongdoing.<\/p>\n
Mazonakis, 54, died after suffering cardiac arrest while undergoing plasmapheresis at the Kolonaki clinic.<\/p>\n
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities examining witness testimony, digital evidence, telephone records and medical findings as they seek to establish a complete timeline of the events leading to the singer\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
