Greek olive and feta exports are facing mounting pressure from U.S. tariffs, cheaper foreign competition and livestock losses. Two of Greece\u2019s most important agricultural products are being squeezed at once.<\/h3>\n

Olive exports fall after a decade of growth<\/h2>\n

Olive exports dropped about 1% in value and 2.25% in volume in the first half of 2026 \u2014 the first decline after ten years of growth.<\/p>\n

Table olive shipments to the United States, Greece\u2019s largest market, fell 6%. U.S. tariffs and repeated changes in the Trump administration\u2019s tariff policy caused order cancellations and disrupted trade.<\/p>\n

A 5% decrease was also recorded in the first half of 2026. Weaker demand in the European Union, driven by inflation and lower purchasing power, cut orders from major markets such as Germany.<\/p>\n

Greece loses share in Australia to Egyptian olives<\/h2>\n

Greece is losing ground in Australia to lower-priced Egyptian olives. Egypt\u2019s share has risen to 17.5% from 3.1% three years ago. Greece still holds 79% of the market by value.<\/p>\n

The EU-Mercosur agreement adds another risk. Tariffs on olive imports from Mercosur countries are set to fall, while European olives will continue to face duties.<\/p>\n

Greek exporters are looking to India as an alternative market.<\/p>\n

Feta production hit by sheep and goat culls<\/h2>\n

Sheep milk deliveries are projected to fall by 80,000 tons in 2026, which would reduce feta production by about 20,000 tons.<\/p>\n

Nearly 573,000 sheep and goats had been culled by 21 August because of disease outbreaks.<\/p>\n

Feta exports still rose 7% as demand remained strong. Producer prices have climbed and may push retail prices higher.<\/p>\n
