The Athens Medical Association (ISA) has issued a detailed statement on the Kolonaki clinic linked to the death of singer Giorgos Mazonakis, rejecting what it calls inaccurate and defamatory claims about how it handled inspections.<\/h2>\n

The Association said it was forced to \u201crestore the facts\u201d after public comments in recent days about the practice and the Association\u2019s role.<\/p>\n

No complaint on file until September<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the ISA, its electronic register shows the clinic was licensed <\/a>on 4 July 2013. From that date until 9 September 2026, it said, no complaint was filed about the practice\u2019s operation or the equipment installed there.<\/p>\n

The Association said that besides sample inspections, it examines every formal complaint it receives and acts on information that reaches it.<\/p>\n

Tip-off in 2025, then three surprise inspections<\/strong><\/p>\n

In July 2025, after an informal private tip-off from a doctor, the ISA ordered an immediate, unannounced and strict inspection. Inspectors were told to look at the treatments alleged and whether the relevant machines were on site.<\/p>\n

That doctor, an ISA member, refused to submit a written complaint, the Association said, even though he was asked to do so so that other authorities \u2014 including the National Transparency Authority and the police \u2014 could be brought in.<\/p>\n

In the three unannounced inspections that followed, the ISA\u2019s Inspection Committee did not find plasmapheresis machines of the kind described in the oral tip-off. That finding, it stressed, reflects what was present at the time of those visits.<\/p>\n

Ozone-therapy letter and a \u20ac29,509 invoice<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 23 July 2026 doctor Ioanna Gaka, who holds no specialty, sent the ISA a letter dated 21 July declaring the purchase of a \u201creplacement attachment\u201d for an ozone-therapy machine already in her practice.<\/p>\n

The letter and attachments were placed on the file for the Inspection Committee to assess whether possession and use were lawful.<\/p>\n

On 4 September 2026, after returning from leave, the acting head of the ISA\u2019s administrative services reviewed the file and found an English-language invoice dated 5 June 2026 for \u20ac29,509.98. The invoice referred to an \u201cinuspheresis double Filtration Device.\u201d<\/p>\n

An unannounced inspection of the two co-located practices was then scheduled for later in September to establish what that machine actually was.<\/p>\n

Prosecutor asked for information, ISA says<\/strong><\/p>\n

Inspection reports are internal documents, the Association said. A protocol number is given to findings once the process is finished. The report of 10 September 2026 was numbered because it was sent to police.<\/p>\n

The ISA \u201ccategorically and absolutely\u201d denied that a prosecutor intervened at the Association or that \u201ca prosecutor entered\u201d its offices.<\/p>\n

What happened, it said, is that the competent Athens first-instance prosecutor asked the ISA for information on the clinic inspections. That information will be provided.<\/p>\n

The Association urged anyone commenting publicly on the case to check facts with the competent services before publishing them.<\/p>\n
