Outgoing US Ambassador to Greece, George Tsunis, described his time in the role as \u201cthe honor of a lifetime,\u201d highlighting the personal significance of serving in his ancestral homeland.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a Greek-American, returning to serve in the land where my parents were born has made this journey even more meaningful,\u201d Tsunis wrote in a social media post. He praised Greece\u2019s \u201cphiloxenia, wisdom, and enduring spirit,\u201d noting their profound impact on him during his tenure.<\/p>\n
Tsunis also commended Greek Minister of State Giorgos Gerapetritis, whom he called a friend, for his leadership and partnership. \u201cThis work wouldn\u2019t have been possible without his leadership,\u201d Tsunis added.<\/p>\n
Maria Olson, deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy in Athens, will assume leadership on January 20 to continue advancing the US-Greece relationship, Tsunis said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery corner of Greece \u2013 its storied past to its bright future \u2013 has offered lessons in leadership and friendship I will carry forever,\u201d Tsunis concluded.<\/p>\n
