The introduction of AI promises to significantly speed up investigative work and improve accuracy.<\/p>\n<p>For example, investigations that currently take weeks \u2013 such as reviewing CCTV footage for theft clues \u2013 could be completed in just minutes with AI technology.<\/p>\n<p>AI would also assist in handling traffic violations and cases of violence, including domestic abuse. For instance, AI could determine, in seconds, if an aggressor has a gun license, enabling police to move swifter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As part of this modernization effort, Deputy Minister of Digital Governance Konstantinos Kyranakis participated in a closed meeting last October in Washington, chaired by Google CEO Thomas Kurian, with officials from nine other countries.<\/p>\n<p>Upon returning from the US, Kyranakis briefed Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis on the available AI technologies for law enforcement, receiving his approval.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou then secured funding for the project through the EU\u2019s Recovery and Resilience Facility, based on an agreement between the ministry and Google.<\/p>\n<p>The Greek police force will soon begin integrating some AI capabilities into its services.
