We are ready to defend our national integrity and our sovereign rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mitsotakis described Kastellorizo as an \u201cemblematic place\u201d from which Greece can send a message of peace, while making clear that revisionist aspirations have no place in the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also stressed the island\u2019s European significance, noting that the message from Megisti extends beyond Greece because <strong>Kastellorizo is European territory<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-5-000-annual-incentive-for-public-servants\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u20ac5,000 annual incentive for public servants<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the new measures, public servants, members of the Security Forces and Armed Forces serving on Kastellorizo will receive a <strong>permanent annual salary incentive of \u20ac5,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government says the measure is designed to make it easier to staff essential services on the remote border island and encourage workers to remain there.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-5-000-for-households-that-live-on-kastellorizo\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u20ac5,000 for households that live on Kastellorizo<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A separate <strong>\u20ac5,000 annual settlement and residence incentive<\/strong> will be introduced for households living on Kastellorizo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The payment will be <strong>tax-free and protected from seizure<\/strong>, while families will receive an additional <strong>\u20ac1,000 for every minor child<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The announced requirement is at least <strong>one full year of residence<\/strong> on the island.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For people already permanently living on Kastellorizo, payments are expected to begin in <strong>early 2027<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For households moving to the island as new residents, payments are expected to begin in <strong>2028<\/strong> and continue annually.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-new-weekly-ferry-connection\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">New weekly ferry connection<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government also plans to strengthen Kastellorizo\u2019s connection with the rest of Greece.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the beginning of 2027, an <strong>additional subsidised ferry service<\/strong> is planned each week on the <strong>Piraeus, Rhodes and Kastellorizo<\/strong> route.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The additional service is expected to operate every Wednesday, giving residents another connection to Rhodes and mainland Greece.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-free-housing-for-doctors-teachers-and-public-servants\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Free housing for doctors, teachers and public servants<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Housing remains one of the biggest challenges facing remote Greek islands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the plan announced in Kastellorizo, <strong>HELLENiQ ENERGY will undertake the reconstruction of old houses<\/strong> that can then be used to provide free accommodation for public servants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The accommodation will be available to essential workers including <strong>doctors, teachers and Coast Guard personnel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government hopes the combination of free housing and the \u20ac5,000 annual incentive will make it easier to attract and retain workers on the island.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-infrastructure-projects-planned-for-kastellorizo\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Infrastructure projects planned for Kastellorizo<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wider government package includes several infrastructure projects designed to improve everyday life on Kastellorizo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plans include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Restoration of the island\u2019s central port<\/li>\n<li>Modernisation of the airport<\/li>\n<li>Improvements to the road network<\/li>\n<li>New desalination units<\/li>\n<li>Upgrades to water supply infrastructure<\/li>\n<li>Improvements to sewage networks<\/li>\n<li>Biological treatment works<\/li>\n<li>Permanent teachers and upgraded educational resources<\/li>\n<li>Digital equipment for schools<\/li>\n<li>Regular visits by mobile medical units for preventive examinations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"h-mitsotakis-recalls-kastellorizo-s-painful-2010-association\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mitsotakis recalls Kastellorizo\u2019s painful 2010 association<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During his speech, Mitsotakis also referred to the island\u2019s association with one of the most difficult moments in modern Greek economic history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He recalled that in 2010, then Prime Minister George Papandreou announced Greece\u2019s move towards the international support mechanism from Kastellorizo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI know how bitter it was for us, how bitter it was for you, the image of 2010, with Kastellorizo being chosen as the setting to announce the country\u2019s passage into the painful years of the memoranda,\u201d Mitsotakis said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He argued that the association did not reflect what Kastellorizo deserved and said the island\u2019s circumstances today are fundamentally different.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-kastellorizo-is-not-just-another-one-of-our-islands\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cKastellorizo is not just another one of our islands\u201d<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mitsotakis closed by highlighting the historic and national significance of Kastellorizo and praising the residents who have remained
