For livestock farmers, a herd represents far more than a collection of animals or an economic asset. It often reflects years of work, provides a family\u2019s livelihood, carries on a family tradition and forms part of everyday life.<\/p>\n
The sudden loss of a herd can therefore create a major financial and professional setback, while also placing a significant emotional burden on farmers and their families.<\/p>\n
The Pallesvian Primary Sector Association has called on the government to provide practical support to affected farmers through immediate and adequate compensation, as well as meaningful assistance for those dealing with the consequences of the losses.<\/p>\n
The association has also called for authorities to examine all available information concerning the situation on Lesbos and, if evidence of responsibility emerges, investigate and assign accountability while respecting the bereaved family.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt wasn\u2019t just a herd that was lost. A man was lost,\u201d the association said in its statement.<\/p>\n
Panagiotis\u2019 death has left his family, friends and fellow farmers in mourning at a time when Lesbos\u2019 livestock sector faces one of its most difficult periods in recent years.<\/p>\n
