A white puppy that spent several weeks living alongside a wild wolf pack in Central Macedonia has died, according to the zoologist who documented the rare relationship.<\/h3>\n

Dr Theodoros Kominos, a zoology researcher at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki<\/a>, had been observing the unusual coexistence for research purposes since early July. He described how the pack treated the puppy as one of their own, guiding it to water and bringing it bones to eat.<\/p>\n

The puppy appeared healthy as recently as six days before its death, playing with wolf cubs and moving naturally with the pack. Its condition then deteriorated rapidly. Kominos recorded severe exhaustion, persistent diarrhoea and a complete unwillingness to move, consistent with a severe gastrointestinal condition.<\/p>\n

The puppy isolated itself in one spot and never got up again. Kominos found it dead on the morning of 6 August. He shared a video showing one of the young wolves approaching the motionless body and nudging it, apparently trying to get it to play.<\/p>\n

Kominos said he did not intervene because he maintains scientific distance and considers it dangerous to send personnel near the pack. The research team also chose not to recover the puppy\u2019s body in order to avoid disturbing the wolf family during the natural decomposition process.<\/p>\n

The cause of death remains unconfirmed without a veterinary examination. Possible factors include a parasitic infection, bacterial illness, contaminated food, or the stress of adapting to a wild environment.<\/p>\n

Kominos also noted that five of the six wolf cubs born to the pack this year have died or disappeared.<\/p>\n

He signed off his post with the words: \u201cSafe travels, little one.\u201d The more than 40 days of documented footage represents one of the most unusual behavioural observations the research team has recorded.<\/p>\n
