Two aircraft narrowly avoided a collision on the tarmac at Sydney Airport early on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

A Jetstar Airbus A320, operating flight JQ402 to the Gold Coast with about 180 passengers on board, was taxiing when its pilots were forced to brake suddenly to avoid a Qatar Airways Boeing 777. The Qatar aircraft had no passengers and was being towed at the time.<\/p>\n

The abrupt stop injured one Jetstar cabin crew member, who was treated by paramedics for minor injuries. No passengers were hurt. The flight was later cancelled, with passengers rebooked on later services.<\/p>\n

Jetstar said its aircraft was following air traffic control instructions when the pilots had to brake firmly after another aircraft came into close proximity. The airline has launched an investigation into the incident.<\/p>\n

In a message to passengers, the Jetstar pilot said the other aircraft \u201cdidn\u2019t follow instructions\u201d and that the crew was able to stop \u201conly by chance at the last minute.\u201d<\/p>\n

The near-miss occurred amid ongoing disruption at Sydney Airport caused by air traffic control staffing shortages. More than 150 flights were delayed on Saturday, including 95 Qantas services, after Airservices Australia reduced traffic movements due to rostering issues.<\/p>\n
