The completed works are expected to further improve the reliability and quality of Metro services.

Since the project began in November 2025, crews have replaced 29.4 kilometres of rails as of August 6, 2026. They have also carried out 1,950 welds and ultrasonic inspections to ensure the quality and durability of the new track infrastructure.

The remaining works cover the final section between Monastiraki and Kerameikos stations and are scheduled for September.

At the same time, STASY is awaiting approval from the Court of Audit to expand the project and replace an additional 7.3 kilometres of rails.

STASY described the project as the largest upgrade of the track infrastructure on Lines 2 and 3 since the Athens Metro began operating.
