A 46-year-old woman accused of participating in the deadly 2010 arson attack on the Marfin bank in central Athens arrived in Greece late on Thursday, 6 August 2026, after being extradited from Britain.<\/p>\n
She was escorted from London by officers from the Hellenic Police\u2019s Organised Crime Division. Upon landing, she was transferred to the cells of the Athens Police Headquarters (GADA).<\/p>\n
Greek authorities activated an Interpol Red Notice that led to her arrest on 13 July 2026 at Gatwick Airport, as she prepared to board a flight to Athens. The woman, a mother of two, had been living for several years in Brighton.<\/p>\n
She is scheduled to appear before prosecutors on Friday morning for the formal execution of the arrest warrant, after which she will be brought before the investigating judge handling the case.<\/p>\n
Investigators attribute an auxiliary role to her in the attack that took place on 5 May 2010 during large anti-austerity protests. Three bank employees died in the fire that followed the throwing of Molotov cocktails into the branch.<\/p>\n
The woman has denied the allegations and stated that she wishes to give her account to the Greek justice system.<\/p>\n
Two other men, both aged 42, remain the principal defendants. One is accused of coordinating the attack and giving orders; the other is alleged to have smashed the bank\u2019s glass facade to allow the firebombs to be thrown inside. Both are currently held in Malandrino and Nafplio prisons.<\/p>\n
