Very high pressure,\u201d they wrote. \u201cHonestly just awful and feel like we were scammed.\u201d Others described children being charged more than adults for the same items, and diners left uneasy by what one called a \u201cdodgy\u201d atmosphere, with nearby tables \u201cshaking their heads at how bad the atmosphere was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another woman said she was drawn in with the promise of free sunbeds, then handed a bill for \u20ac400 after ordering fish she was not told would be charged by weight. A third reviewer, Gabriela, accused the venue of \u201ctheft\u201d over a \u20ac35 beer, while another described being hit with a \u20ac51 surcharge for two bottles of water and a Diet Coke, plus \u20ac5 for ketchup and \u20ac18 for a small portion of fries.<\/p>\n
The venue\u2019s troubles go beyond bad reviews. Greece\u2019s Ministry of Tourism fined DK Oyster more than \u20ac31,000 in 2022 after an audit uncovered seven or eight violations, following a case in which two American women took legal action against the restaurant\u2019s manager and three waiters over threats they say followed a dispute about their bill. The restaurant\u2019s owner, Dimitrios Kalamaras, whose initials give the venue its name, has previously defended his pricing publicly, insisting DK Oyster sets its prices as it sees fit and will not bow to pressure from social media influencers. <\/p>\n
A British journalist who visited the strip in 2024 to test the claims found the wider Platis Gialos boardwalk to be a fairly hostile environment for browsing tourists, with touts hurling Greek insults at those who declined to sit down, even as one local admitted the venue\u2019s reputation was finally starting to catch up with it online. The same report noted Mykonos has seen tourist numbers fall this year, with analysts pointing to overcrowding and steep accommodation costs as factors dampening the island\u2019s appeal.<\/p>\n
For a destination that trades heavily on its reputation for glamour, the recurring headlines sit awkwardly alongside Mykonos\u2019 billing as one of the most desirable islands in the Aegean. Travellers researching the island are increasingly being steered toward its bill of complaints as much as its beaches, with DK Oyster now something of a cautionary tale in its own right for anyone planning a trip.<\/p>\n
