The wildfire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon in Plomari, Lesvos, remains active on Thursday, with firefighting teams continuing intense operations under difficult conditions.<\/p>\n

\"The <\/source><\/picture><\/figure>\n

Strong winds of up to 6 Beaufort, with gusts reaching 7 Beaufort, are fuelling the flames and complicating the response. Lesvos is currently under a very high fire risk rating (category 4).<\/p>\n

A total of 92 firefighters, five hiking groups from the 2nd and 12th EMODE units, volunteers and 19 fire engines are deployed on the ground. One helicopter is providing aerial support, while water tankers from the Municipality of West Lesvos are also taking part. Hellenic Police and Coast Guard forces remain on standby.<\/p>\n

Yesterday the 112 emergency number was activated twice \u2014 first to alert residents in the wider area, and later with an evacuation order instructing people in Plomari to move towards Plomari beach in the direction of Agios Isidoros.<\/p>\n

The operation continues as firefighters battle to contain the blaze.<\/p>\n
