The fire front now stretches roughly 15 kilometres and has split into three major uncontrolled outbreaks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Evacuations ordered:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Krya Vrysi, Melampes and Saktouria already evacuated<\/li>\n<li>Urgent 112 alerts issued for Agia Galini, Orne, Triopetra, Saktouria and Agios Georgios<\/li>\n<li>29 people rescued by sea from the Agios Pavlos area with help from the Greek Navy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A major force of 156 firefighters, 33 vehicles and eight specialized ground teams is battling the blaze. Aerial water drops continue, but strong winds and dense smoke make operations extremely dangerous.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Community president Sifis Vavourakis confirmed the two firefighters (aged 28 and 60) died on the main road toward Melampes after becoming trapped by the flames. Two volunteer civilians were also injured; their condition is stable.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-critical-fire-in-sitia-threatens-power-plant\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Critical Fire in Sitia Threatens Power Plant<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Lassithi, a separate fire near Agia Triada, Sitia, is only about 500 metres from the PPC power plant at Atherinolakkos. Residents received preparedness messages via 112.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Approximately 25 firefighters with five vehicles, two ground teams and one helicopter are working to stop the advance. Two firefighters were injured near the plant but were quickly transferred to hospital. Strong winds continue to hinder efforts and threaten olive groves and farmland.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-improved-situation-in-heraklion\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Improved Situation in Heraklion<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fire in Moroni (Municipality of Phaistos) is showing clear signs of containment after rapid intervention by 58 firefighters, 18 vehicles and two helicopters. Conditions have also improved in Malles, Ierapetra, although strong winds mean crews remain on high alert.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-official-advice\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Official Advice<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorities urge residents and visitors to avoid non-essential travel in affected areas so emergency vehicles can move freely, and to follow all 112 alerts and civil protection instructions.
