Greek yogurt giant Chobani is facing a class action lawsuit in the United States over claims that some of its Zero Sugar yogurt products may mislead consumers.<\/p>\n
A U.S. federal appeals court in Chicago has ruled that consumers can proceed with their lawsuit alleging Chobani falsely advertised certain Greek-style yogurts as containing \u201cZero Sugar.\u201d<\/p>\n
The lawsuit claims that Chobani\u2019s Zero Sugar yogurt contains 4 grams of allulose per serving. Allulose is a naturally occurring sweetener that plaintiffs argue should be disclosed as sugar on product labels.<\/p>\n
Chobani has rejected the allegations, arguing that allulose does not qualify as sugar under current U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations, which list examples such as glucose, fructose, lactose and sucrose. The company maintains that its product labeling complies with federal guidelines.<\/p>\n
The company was founded by Turkish-American entrepreneur Hamdi Ulukaya, who serves as Chobani\u2019s Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, Chobani has become one of the world\u2019s best-known Greek yogurt brands and has expanded into oat milk, creamers and other dairy products.<\/p>\n
The federal appeals court\u2019s decision does not determine whether Chobani violated consumer laws. Instead, it allows consumers to present evidence supporting their claims as the case moves forward.<\/p>\n
