{"id":18004,"date":"2026-07-22T12:51:49","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T12:51:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/in-greece.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/22\/heatwave-update-for-greece-wednesday-july-22-2026-greek-city-times\/"},"modified":"2026-07-22T12:51:49","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T12:51:49","slug":"heatwave-update-for-greece-wednesday-july-22-2026-greek-city-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in-greece.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/22\/heatwave-update-for-greece-wednesday-july-22-2026-greek-city-times\/","title":{"rendered":"Heatwave Update for Greece \u2013 Wednesday, July 22, 2026 \u2013 Greek City Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-first=\"G\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Greece is expected to experience its hottest day of the year on Wednesday, with temperatures reaching up to 43C according to meteorologists, and several regions placed on alert due to the risk of wildfires.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">High temperatures are affecting much of the eastern mainland today, with the hottest conditions expected in <strong>Thessaly, eastern Sterea (Central Greece), and eastern Peloponnese<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-temperature-forecasts\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Temperature Forecasts<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Thessaly<\/strong>: 41\u201342\u00b0C, locally up to 43\u00b0C.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eastern Central Greece \/ Attica<\/strong>: 41\u201342\u00b0C generally; Attica around 39\u00b0C, locally 40\u201341\u00b0C in the east.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eastern Peloponnese<\/strong>: 41\u201342\u00b0C.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In northern mainland areas (Macedonia and gradually Thrace), localized heavy rains, thunderstorms, strong winds, frequent lightning, and possible hail are expected from the afternoon, easing by late evening.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-mandatory-work-stoppage\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mandatory Work Stoppage<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To protect workers from heat stress, <strong>outdoor manual labor<\/strong> must stop between <strong>13:00 and 17:00<\/strong> in:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eastern Central Greece<\/li>\n<li>Thessaly<\/li>\n<li>Eastern Peloponnese<\/li>\n<li>All of Attica<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This applies to construction sites, technical works, ship repairs, product distribution by two-wheeled vehicles, and delivery workers (including digital platforms). Exceptions exist for critical infrastructure (health, transport, utilities) if protective measures are in place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Violations can result in fines of <strong>\u20ac2,000 per employee<\/strong>. Employers must facilitate teleworking where possible for high-risk employees and can adjust working hours without prior ERGANI registration in affected areas.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-fire-risk\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fire Risk<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Extreme fire risk (Category 5 \/ State of Alert)<\/strong> in:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Attica<\/li>\n<li>Boeotia<\/li>\n<li>Phthiotis<\/li>\n<li>Argolida<\/li>\n<li>Corinth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Civil Protection urges citizens to avoid any activities that could start fires (burning debris, outdoor equipment that sparks, barbecues, etc.). Burning fields is banned during the fire season. Several regions are already on <strong>RED CODE<\/strong> mobilization.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-civil-protection-recommendations\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Civil Protection Recommendations<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vulnerable groups (elderly, infants, young children, people with chronic illnesses) should take extra precautions.
