Responding to a question from Greek newspaper Kathimerini<\/em> following recent remarks by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a US State Department spokesperson highlighted the long-standing security partnership between Athens and Washington, describing it as one of the strongest in the world.<\/p>\n \u201cBy confronting far-left and anarchist terrorism together, Greece and the United States have built a long-standing security relationship that ranks among the strongest globally,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n The State Department added that the shared losses suffered by both countries from terrorism underscore both the seriousness of the threat and the importance of international cooperation in addressing it.<\/p>\n The spokesperson also praised Greece for demonstrating \u201cgreat determination and effectiveness\u201d in confronting the threat, including during periods when other governments had not fully recognised or had underestimated it.<\/p>\n \u201cGreece is a leading force in counterterrorism and a model for other countries in combating this threat,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n Referring to Secretary Rubio\u2019s comments about the terrorist group November 17<\/em>, the State Department said the United States \u201cwill never forget\u201d the diplomats and government personnel who lost their lives while serving abroad.<\/p>\n Rubio cited examples of far-left political terrorism in Greece, the United States and other countries to illustrate Washington\u2019s view that terrorism remains an international threat requiring close cooperation among allies.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n
