On Monday, July 20, temperatures in several areas exceeded 41\u00b0C, with forecasts indicating Wednesday will be the hottest day, particularly in Attica, eastern central Greece, and parts of the Peloponnese. Some regions could see highs of up to 42\u00b0C, while fire risk remains elevated.<\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the National Observatory of Athens network of automatic weather stations, the highest temperature recorded on Monday reached <strong>41.1\u00b0C<\/strong> in Rize (Corinthia), Makrakomi (Phthiotis), and Olympia (Elis). Twenty-four stations recorded temperatures above 40\u00b0C, while 159 stations across the country exceeded 37\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-wednesday-to-be-the-hottest-day\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wednesday to Be the Hottest Day<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The heat is expected to persist on Tuesday and peak on Wednesday. In <strong>Attica<\/strong>, temperatures are forecast to reach around 40\u00b0C, while in eastern central Greece, Phthiotis, Boeotia, Argolis, and Corinthia, highs could hit <strong>42\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In urban areas, particularly central Athens, the heat feels even more intense due to high humidity, asphalt, and dense building infrastructure. On Monday, air temperatures in the city centre surpassed 37\u00b0C, with road surfaces in some locations exceeding 60\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-fire-risk-remains-high\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fire Risk Remains High<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has declared a <strong>high fire risk (Category 3)<\/strong> for several regions, including Attica, Euboea, Boeotia, Phthiotis, Magnesia, Argolis, Corinthia, Laconia, parts of Western Greece, the Ionian Islands, and the Eastern Aegean islands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorities urge the public to avoid any activities that could start a fire, such as burning dry grass or branches, using spark-producing tools outdoors, or discarding lit cigarettes.
