Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias marked 52 years since Turkey\u2019s military invasion of Cyprus, stating that the Cyprus issue remains a matter of illegal occupation.<\/h3>\n

In a statement commemorating the anniversary, Dendias said Greece continues to stand alongside the Republic of Cyprus and supports efforts for a fair and lasting solution based on international law and United Nations resolutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cyprus issue remains an issue of illegal occupation,\u201d Dendias said, reaffirming Greece\u2019s position that the island\u2019s division remains unresolved decades after the events of 1974.<\/p>\n

The Greek Defence Minister stressed that Athens will continue to support Cyprus in efforts to restore security, stability and justice on the island.<\/p>\n

The anniversary marks the beginning of Turkey\u2019s military operation in Cyprus in 1974, which resulted in the division of the island and the establishment of the Turkish-controlled area in the north.<\/p>\n
