Turkey has strongly condemned a recent European Union document, accusing the bloc of bias and lacking a strategic or fair approach toward Ankara.<\/p>\n
In a statement on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Oncu Keceli<\/strong> said the document, published on Wednesday, ignored Turkey\u2019s status as an EU candidate country and failed to reflect reality in the Eastern Mediterranean.<\/p>\n Keceli described the EU\u2019s references regarding the Eastern Mediterranean as \u201cbaseless allegations,\u201d claiming they demonstrated a continued \u201cbiased and distorted understanding\u201d by the bloc.<\/p>\n He also noted that the document appeared to downplay Turkey\u2019s significant role within NATO, despite the alliance recently reaffirming Ankara\u2019s \u201cindispensable role\u201d at its latest summit. Keceli highlighted that the summit laid the groundwork for a \u201cnew era\u201d in which European allies would assume greater responsibilities.<\/p>\n Regarding Cyprus, the Turkish spokesman reiterated Ankara\u2019s long-standing position that the Greek Cypriot side bears responsibility for the deadlock in peace negotiations.
