Since then, she has spent every summer there, an experience she credits as her deepest source of inspiration.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI had no choice but to speak Greek. I couldn\u2019t communicate with my grandmother in English,\u201d she explained. \u201cThis whole marriage of life \u2014 America, Greece, Crete \u2014 and bringing our culture to America is a huge source of inspiration for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"h-from-teaching-to-the-stage\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">From Teaching to the Stage<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before fully committing to music, Evangelia followed a more conventional path. She earned a master\u2019s degree in pedagogy from Rutgers University and worked as a teacher for children with special needs for three years.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf I wasn\u2019t a singer, the only other thing I would have wanted to do is be a teacher,\u201d she admitted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When budget cuts led to the loss of her teaching position, she saw it as a turning point and decided to pursue music full-time. With the support of her partner and producer Jay Stolar, she began writing and performing, eventually carving out a sound that blends contemporary American pop with Greek influences.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Evangelia - \u039c\u03ae\u03bb\u03bf \u03bc\u03bf\u03c5 \u03ba\u03cc\u03ba\u03ba\u03b9\u03bd\u03bf | Unplugged Stories\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iy7ASfz_aYY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Evangelia has already made a notable impression in Greece. Her collaboration with <strong>Eleni Foureira<\/strong> at MadWalk was a highlight, as was her work with <strong>Lena <\/strong><strong>Zevgara<\/strong> on the song \u201cParea\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her latest release, <strong>\u201cEna Nero\u201d<\/strong>, is a deeply personal track that pays homage to her Cretan roots and family traditions.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhenever I\u2019m in Crete, I\u2019m not Evangelia, I\u2019m Vangelio,\u201d she said. \u201cThe fact that I\u2019m now saying it in this modern way makes me very happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked about her long-term goals, Evangelia did not hesitate:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTo get to the Grammys.
