{"id":1736,"date":"2025-01-07T03:22:01","date_gmt":"2025-01-07T03:22:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/in-greece.com\/index.php\/2025\/01\/07\/hellenic-navy-to-monitor-turkeys-blue-homeland-exercise-in-the-aegean\/"},"modified":"2025-01-07T03:22:01","modified_gmt":"2025-01-07T03:22:01","slug":"hellenic-navy-to-monitor-turkeys-blue-homeland-exercise-in-the-aegean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in-greece.com\/index.php\/2025\/01\/07\/hellenic-navy-to-monitor-turkeys-blue-homeland-exercise-in-the-aegean\/","title":{"rendered":"Hellenic Navy to monitor Turkey\u2019s \u2018Blue Homeland\u2019 exercise in the Aegean"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n<p>The Hellenic Navy is closely monitoring developments in the Aegean, particularly in the area between Rhodes and Cyprus, which is expected to serve as the main operational zone for the Turkish fleet during the \u201cMavi Vatan\u201d (Blue Homeland) exercise, set to begin on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cMavi Vatan 25\u201d exercise is set to conclude on January 16 with an amphibious landing operation in the Aksaz region, directly across from Rhodes, where Turkey\u2019s naval base is located.<\/p>\n<p>Hellenic Navy ships and submarines will closely observe the exercise scenarios and track the movements of Turkish vessels and aircraft, sources told Kathimerini.<\/p>\n<p>According to Turkey\u2019s Ministry of Defense, the exercise will involve 87 ships, seven submarines, 31 aircraft, 17 helicopters, 28 UAVs, seven amphibious unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and 20,000 personnel from the Turkish Armed Forces.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Hellenic Navy\u2019s frigate Hydra is expected to return to the Red Sea as part of the European Union\u2019s \u201cAspides\u201d operation, which aims to protect international shipping lanes from attacks by pro-Iranian Houthi rebels in Yemen.<\/p>\n<p>The frigate is scheduled to depart from the Salamis Naval Base on Tuesday, heading toward the Suez Canal and then Djibouti.
