Starting on Thursday, Greek banks will have to reduce the fee to 0.5 euros for all transfers up to \u20ac5,000, as from that date a new regulation harmonizing the cost of sending money within the European Union for all types of transfers comes into force.<\/p>\n
The implementation of the regulation brings Greek lenders one step closer to the obligation imposed by the government to reduce the commission for money transfers up to \u20ac5,000 to just 50 cents. For amounts above \u20ac5,000, banks will have to implement new tariffs, but they cannot differentiate between different types of transfers, such as sending within a few seconds and a common transfer that requires one, two or more days.<\/p>\n
It should be noted that the new regulation does not provide for an upper or lower commission limit for a transaction and the limit of \u20ac0.5 is the result of the government decision to make money transfers via web or mobile banking accessible for specific amounts, which until now were subject to a commission of \u20ac1 to \u20ac2.50.<\/p>\n
As part of the government interventions, banks are obliged, by the end of the month at the latest, to zero out the commission for payments via web and mobile banking of debts concerning the state, social security funds, local government organizations, energy, telecommunications, water supply companies and insurance companies. The measures concern transactions carried out by individuals, freelancers and sole proprietors of companies.<\/p>\n
From the same date, the charge for cash withdrawals in municipalities where there is an ATM of only one banking institution will also be zero. Accordingly, the charge for balance inquiries at the ATM of another bank throughout the country is zeroed \u2013 currently \u20ac0.20. The charge for topping up prepaid cards with an amount of up to \u20ac100 will also be zero (from about \u20ac1 currently in force). Finally, the 50% reduction in commissions for purchases with debit, credit and prepaid cards via POS is extended, from \u20ac10 nowadays to \u20ac20.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
