A preliminary investigation has been launched into the incident, a government official said.<\/p>\n<p>Two \u2060anti-pollution Coast Guard vessels \u200cand another \u2060two carrying anti-pollution equipment have preemptively deployed a floating sea barrier as authorities are concerned about potential fuel leakage, Greek shipping ministry \u200bofficials said.<\/p>\n<p>Greek Coast Guard footage showed a small boat deploying yellow \u200cfloating booms at sea near the Andros shoreline to help contain any pollution from the stricken ship.<\/p>\n<p>The vessel\u2019s Turkey-based operator could not immediately be reached for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200brescue operation was launched after the ship issued a mayday call at around 0100 GMT reporting that it had run aground and was taking in \u200cwater.<\/p>\n<p>Greece deployed \u200bthree Coast Guard vessels and a helicopter, while a passenger ship was tasked with locating the sinking freighter, the \u2060officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Two crew members were rescued \u200cfrom the sea and seven from a rocky area on Andros, \u200bthe Coast Guard official said, adding that they had all been taken \u201cin good \u200chealth\u201d \u2060to \u2060the island\u2019s clinic.<\/p>\n<p>Turkey\u2019s foreign ministry did not \u200bimmediately respond to a request for comment.
