{"id":15204,"date":"2026-04-29T08:34:20","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T08:34:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/in-greece.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/29\/us-no-place-called-feta-in-eu\/"},"modified":"2026-04-29T08:34:20","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T08:34:20","slug":"us-no-place-called-feta-in-eu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in-greece.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/29\/us-no-place-called-feta-in-eu\/","title":{"rendered":"US: No place called \u2018Feta\u2019 in EU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n<p>Arguing that there is no place called \u201cFeta\u201d in Greece, or in the entire European Union, the US administration is attempting to refute EU legislation on products with protected designation of origin (PDO) and protected geographical indication (PGI).<\/p>\n<p>In a post on Tuesday on the account maintained on the X platform, the US Trade Representative, currently Jamieson Greer, who is responsible for formulating and recommending trade policy to the US president, as well as for conducting trade negotiations with other countries, mentions the case of fetas protection as one of the \u201c10 craziest foreign trade barriers facing American exporters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The post reads: \u201cWithin the European Union, the term \u2018feta\u2019 can only be used for cheese produced in Greece, since the EU claims that certain cheese terms are connected to specific places in Europe. However, there is no specific place named \u2018Feta\u2019 in Europe! And the EU forces other countries to follow this same nonsensical rule. This locks American producers out of key markets merely for using certain cheese terms,\u201d Greer wrote on X.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">10\/10: Within the European Union, the term \u201cfeta\u201d can only be used for cheese produced in Greece, since the EU claims that certain cheese terms are connected to specific places in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>However, there is no specific place named \u201cFeta\u201d in Europe!
