Main opposition leader Nikos Androulakis said his PASOK party will ask parliament to establish an investigative committee into the wiretapping scandal, after a Supreme Court prosecutor ruled out reopening the case despite a court decision calling for further inquiry into possible additional offences and suspects.<\/p>\n
Speaking at an emergency press conference, Androulakis accused the leadership of the Supreme Court of damaging the credibility of the justice system.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, the leadership of the Supreme Court insulted and undermined the prestige of justice itself,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He alleged that justice had been sacrificed to \u201cbackstage negotiations\u201d at Maximos Mansion, the prime minister\u2019s office, involving a retired officer who he claimed was publicly blackmailing Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.<\/p>\n
Androulakis described the refusal to reopen the case as \u201canother episode of the discrediting of the rule of law and the separation of powers,\u201d adding that the justice system had failed in its duty.<\/p>\n
He said prosecutors had not called on Tal Dilian to provide evidence for claims that the Predator spyware had been sold only to states and state agencies.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey did not do their minimum duty. They refused to investigate,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Dilian, founder of Intellexa, was convicted by an Athens court in February on charges of breaching personal data during the wiretapping scandal that shook Greece in 2022.<\/p>\n
Androulakis accused Mitsotakis of heading a \u201cdeeply corrupt system of power\u201d and eroding institutions in order to remain in office.<\/p>\n
\u201cMr Mitsotakis is dangerous and must leave so that the country can breathe, so that democracy can breathe,\u201d he said. \u201cPolitical change must bring catharsis and restore the rule of law.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said PASOK lawmakers would submit a request in the coming days for an investigative committee and called on other opposition parties to back the move.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur struggle will continue as it has continued to this day and at the European level,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
