Greece\u2019s main opposition leader Nikos Androulakis on Friday launched a sharp attack on the conservative government over corruption, saying his PASOK party must win the next election \u2013 \u201ceven by one vote\u201d \u2013 to restore normalcy and put the country on a stronger European footing.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the Delphi Economic Forum, Androulakis accused the ruling New Democracy of presiding over entrenched corruption, arguing that Greece faces a \u201cstructural\u201d problem that has deepened despite public expectations of cleaner governance after years of economic crisis. \u201cImpunity fuels corruption,\u201d he said, calling for institutional reforms to break with clientelist practices.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I win the elections, we will become a normal European country,\u201d he said, framing his victory as a turning point and pledging political change and stronger institutions.<\/p>\n
Androulakis said PASOK\u2019s goal is to emerge as the largest party, even by a narrow margin, so that its policy program can form the core of the next government.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Greek people will decide the balance of power,\u201d he said, adding that any future alliances would depend on the election outcome and which parties could align with PASOK\u2019s agenda for change and stability.<\/p>\n
However, he ruled out any cooperation with New Democracy, saying \u201cthere is no scenario\u201d under which PASOK would partner with the ruling party.<\/p>\n
He also suggested that early elections could not be ruled out, questioning whether the vote would take place in a year as scheduled.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
