Former prime minister Alexis Tsipras declined Thursday to specify when he plans to launch his new political party, indicating that the timing of his comeback will depend on broader political developments rather than a fixed timetable.<\/p>\n
\u201cI find it hard to tell you the day and time because I don\u2019t think this is a normal country we live in,\u201d Tsipras said at the Delphi Economic Forum.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He said, however, that he is in a position to move quickly if political conditions were to change, such as if snap elections were called. \u201cIf that were to happen, I would announce the party within a week. But that does not seem to be the case \u2013 unless Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis can say otherwise,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Tsipras, who has all but announced a political comeback, said he could not remain in \u201ccomfortable silence\u201d and had a responsibility to help restore \u201cstability and normality\u201d in Greece.<\/p>\n
Outlining the broad direction of the new party, he called for a \u201cgoverning left\u201d focused on practical solutions rather than dissent.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He argued that Greece must shift away from a real estate-driven economy toward a more productive model, proposing the creation of a national convergence fund to support investment.<\/p>\n
He also emphasized tax reform, including lower taxes on wage earners and a fairer system for capital income. \u201cA person earning \u20ac30,000 cannot be taxed the same as someone earning \u20ac3 million,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On potential alliances, Tsipras struck a cautious tone, saying his priority is to present a clear alternative political plan rather than negotiate roles within the existing system.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am coming with the desire to be useful,\u201d he said, adding that voters \u2013 not backroom deals \u2013 should determine the scope for cooperation.<\/p>\n
He said he is not interested in leading a party with a \u201ccomplementary role,\u201d but in reshaping policy direction.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
