Five antiquities dating from the 6th century BC to the 2nd century AD are being repatriated from the US to Greece, the Culture Ministry announced.<\/p>\n
The objects include two Attic black-figure vessels from the 6th century BC: an amphora depicting Athena and Hermes welcoming Heracles to Olympus and a battle scene, and an olpe showing Dionysus with maenads.<\/p>\n
The remaining works are a bronze mirror from the Late Archaic-Classical period, a torso of Hermes in Parian marble dated to the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD, and a relief fragment portraying Athena from about the 2nd century AD.<\/p>\n
The antiquities were acquired in the 1970s and 1980s by the art dealer Richard Gray and his wife, Mary Gray. In May 2025, their children contacted Greek authorities and proceeded with a voluntary return.<\/p>\n
At a ceremony in Chicago, the culture minister, Lina Mendoni (right), called the repatriation \u201canother story of homecoming,\u201d praising the family\u2019s decision as \u201can act of generosity, responsibility and a high sense of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
