The drop for banks was considerably greater than for mid-caps, pointing to the international character of the day\u2019s declining course.<\/p>\n<p>The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,259.73 points, shedding 2.14% from Friday\u2019s 2,309.10 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index contracted 2.33%, ending at 5,748.47 points, while mid-caps only eased 0.37%.<\/p>\n<p>The banks index conceded 3.62%, as National slumped 4.20%, Optima shied 3.74%, Piraeus gave up 3.62%, Alpha dropped 3.61% and Eurobank parted with 3.19%.
