The government\u2019s relations with the market are being pushed to the extreme once again due to recent measures against price hikes and, above all, the reinstatement of the ceiling on the gross profit margin in 61 food categories and other basic grocery items.<\/p>\n

Tension between the two sides is also being fueled by the delay in measures to support the industry for energy costs, as the two weeks within which the prime minister had scheduled the announcements has passed.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, from the 16th Food Retail Conference, senior representatives of the manufacturing and food industries and the supermarket sector criticized the government strongly. They spoke of \u201cpolice\u201d practices, of deliberate incrimination of businesses, of state interventionism, and even of the absence of common sense. At the same time, Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos announced fines for food businesses.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both sides agree that price increases are inevitable, especially if the war does not end soon, as the rise in oil rates is inflating energy product prices in general, as well as many other goods, such as packaging materials, where price hikes of around 30% are already recorded.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
