The maritime industry, traditionally measured in its adoption of new technologies, is steadily advancing its engagement with AI, though not without caution, according to findings of a recent Posidonia survey.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of Posidonia, which takes place June 1-5 at Metropolitan Expo center, organizers observe growing dialogue among exhibitors and industry stakeholders around AI-driven solutions spanning predictive maintenance, fuel optimization, digital compliance, and operational analytics. But the overall sentiment across the sector remains balanced: Shipping is neither rushing into AI nor standing still.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAI is clearly transitioning from theoretical discussion to operational application,\u201d said Posidonia exhibitions managing director Theodore Vokos. \u201cOver 40 Posidonia 2026 exhibitors have lent their insights regarding AI adoption by their businesses, and what we are witnessing is not blind adoption, but structured experimentation. The maritime industry is assessing AI through the lens of safety, compliance and return on investment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a period of intense geopolitical turbulence, the shipping industry is already preparing for next day. Posidonia 2026 will be more topical than ever, as a wide range of issues and developments will be discussed, including, among others, the consequences of the conflict in Iran \u2026 Shipping responds faster than other sectors to challenges, and this is also reflected in this year\u2019s survey on the adoption of AI,\u201d added Vokos.<\/p>\n<p>Industry responses, gathered in the run-up to the exhibition, revealed three distinct approaches: active adopters embedding AI into products and services; companies selectively integrating AI for internal optimization; and others maintaining an observational stance.<\/p>\n<p>Classification societies and technology leaders appear among the most proactive. For instance, Bureau Veritas \u2013 a certification service \u2013 sees AI increasingly embedded in routing optimization, fuel consumption prediction, and risk-based inspection.
