{"id":13882,"date":"2026-03-30T23:25:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T23:25:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/in-greece.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/30\/cruise-industry-contributes-e3-1-bln-to-greek-economy\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T23:25:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T23:25:14","slug":"cruise-industry-contributes-e3-1-bln-to-greek-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in-greece.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/30\/cruise-industry-contributes-e3-1-bln-to-greek-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"Cruise industry contributes \u20ac3.1 bln to Greek economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n<p>The economic impact of the cruise industry in Greece reached record levels in 2024, confirming its role as a pillar of the national economy.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Cruise Lines International Association\u2019s (CLIA) latest Economic Impact Report for the year 2024, conducted by Oxford Economics, the industry generated \u20ac3.1 billion in total economic output and contributed \u20ac1.5 billion to Greece\u2019s gross domestic product.\u00a0 This marks significant year-on-year growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe economic contribution of cruising in Greece has almost tripled in only three years, reaching \u20ac3.1 billion in 2024 from \u20ac1.4 billion in 2022 and \u20ac2 billion in 2023\u201d, said Maria Deligianni, regional director, Eastern Mediterranean, CLIA.<\/p>\n<p>The industry\u2019s contribution to GDP increased almost by 50%, rising to \u20ac1.5 billion in 2024, from \u20ac973 million in 2023. Employment also saw a substantial increase, with total jobs supported rising from 22,600 in 2023 to 33,000 in 2024, an addition of more than 10,000 jobs within a single year, including direct, indirect and induced employment.<\/p>\n<p>Jobs generated by the cruise industry in Greece comprise 17,000 expenditure-linked roles (direct), 1,000 within cruise lines (direct), 10,000 indirect positions, and 5,000 induced jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Athens\/Piraeus, the region\u2019s busiest port, attracted 1.7 million passenger visits the same year, which included substantial embarkation activity.
